SPECIAL SERVICE AREA BRIEFINGS:

Condemnation Issues

Tuesday, July 6, 2004 - 7:30 p.m.
St. Anthony Senior Center, 2309 Carpenter Street
CAVA International Expansion

Wednesday, June 2, 2004 - 7:30 p.m.
St. Anthony Senior Center, 2309 Carpenter Street

The May 19 issue of the Philadelphia Inquirer carried a notice about potential condemnations for three projects in the SOSNA service area:

  • Fitzwater 2000 Community Garden
  • 1900 block of Kimball light industry project (CAVA Marble)
  • Greater St.Matthew's affordable and market rate housing

Public hearings will be held before City Council on these issues Wednesday, June 9, 2004. At the June 2 SOSNA briefing, representatives for all three projects will be available to make a presentation and answer community questions, as will a representative from Council President Anna C. Verna's office. Staff from the Redevelopment Authority will also be invited. (Be aware that Greater St. Matthews will be last on the agenda -- Wednesday is the church's Bible Study night and Pastor Avinger will join us following that activity.)

We encourage all members of the SOSNA service area to help us by alerting neighbors, especially those near these three projects, of this opportunity to register your comments. SOSNA will send a summary of the meeting proceedings to our Council representative prior to the June 9 public hearing. SOSNA relies on its informal network of volunteers and interested community residents to get the word out about important meetings such as these.

A flyer will be available on the site some time the week of May 24. We encourage you to print it out, distribute it on your block, and display it in your window or on your door.
