Anderson Recreation Center - 17th and Fitzwater
A sign-in book with
a list of those people attending is maintained at the SOSNA office at
1711 South Street.
Chair Angela Richardson
convened the meeting at 7:45 p.m.
- Moment of Silence.
Chairperson Richardson asked that the members present bow their heads
in a moment of silence out of respect to all persons killed or otherwise
affected by the Iraqi conflict.
- Minutes.
The minutes of the March 12, 2003 meeting were approved as circulated,
with one correction -- The spokesperson for Philadelphia Community Access
Coalition is Danielle Redden, not Daniel.
- Announcement
of election procedures. Election committee chair Lori Heyman read
the notice of elections (circulated as part of the meeting flyers for
February and March, read at those meetings, and incorporated into these
minutes by reference). She instructed eligible voters to vote for five
of the eight candidates for one-year terms to the board. The ten candidates
for five-year terms were unopposed. The following individuals served
on the committee: Lori Heyman, Chris Mahoney, Rosalee K. Lee, Donald
Rooney, , and Doris Reddick. The polls would close promptly at 8:30
p.m., and the election committee would then validate and tally the ballots.
A representative of the Office of Housing and Community Development
was present to witness the procedures.
- Candidate Statements.
Each of the candidates for office made brief statements about the
block on which they lived, length of residence, and particular concerns
about the community.
- REV Theater.
Rosemary Hay of REV Theater made a presentation about a summer theater
program for children ages 8-13 to take place at the Christian Street
Y. Theater workshops with three groups of students will culminate in
a performance of an adaptation of the popular children's tale Hansel
and Gretel.
- PAFA Summer
Program. Eve Lewis, NAC Diretor, reminded attendees of the SOSNA/Pennsylvania
Academy of Fine Arts program to be held at Marian Anderson Center for
six weeks beginning May 17 and introduced State Rep. Babette Joseph's
new chief of staff Cory Hamilton.
- Election results.
The polls having duly closed at 8:30 and the ballots validated and tallied
as described above, election chair Lori Heyman announced the election
of the following five candidates to a one-year term on the Board:
Richard Gliniak
Gloria Jackson
Theodore Michael Lee
Anthony Moretti
William Pearson
The following candidates for five year terms were also elected:
Angela Richardson
Laura Blanchard
Soledad Gillespie
Ann Hoskins-Brown
Marian Jones
Alan Mandell
Samuel Porter
Jennie Robbins
Marni Showell
Doerte Smith
Chair Angela Richardson thanked all candidates for their willingness
to serve and remarked on the very high quality of this year's slate
of candidates. She also thanked outgoing board member Gary Spahn for
his service to SOSNA and the community.
There being no further
business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Laura Blanchard
Acting Secretary
