The
Philadelphia Zoo celebrates the "America the Beautiful" theme
with a salute to the American Bald Eagle, "Where Eagles Soar."
Although half of the world bald eagle population of 70,000 live in Alaska
and British Columbia (close to their favorite food, dead and dying fish),
there are nesting pairs in each of the 48 contiguous states.
This
exhibit includes a model of a first-year nest, six feet across and four
feet deep. Eagles, who live into their twenties, mate for life and expand
the nest each year.
